2023 rounded out in fairytale fashion for RG Racing after Montather landed a much-deserved city victory at The Valley on Saturday.
After three consecutive metropolitan seconds, the $8000 purchase has now banked over $110,000 for his proud connections since joining the stable later this year.
It was a milestone first Valley win for the stable with the blueblooded son of Dubawi nicknamed ‘Marty’, who hadn’t won since June 2021 in the UK before joining the team.
“I am just really proud of the horse,” Reece Goodwin said.
“When we first got him we were umming and ahing if we would even get him into the winners stall let alone being here on a Saturday.”
The victory came courtesy of a well-judged Michael Dee ride sitting outside the leader and running out a strong 1600 metres to the delight of many owners on-course.
Montather was another horse purchased online and snapped up quickly by those signed up to the stable mailing list.
