Ghaiyyath x Persian Star '23 Colt

Trainer: Tom Dabernig (Warrnambool)

Cleo Cat has won the first five races of her career and after her fifth win in a row I knew I had to secure a horse to race with Tom Dabernig in the TBB colours.

Dabernig Racing is based at Warrnambool and has had an excellent first half of the season. Cleo Cat is just one of the highlights and there doesn’t seem to be a day go by that he is celebrating a winner.

We invite you to race this Ghaiyyath colt with us and Tom.

Who was Ghaiyyath?

Ghaiyyath was a Horse of the Year and World Champion following four unrivalled Group 1 victories by a combined 21 3/4 length winning margin.

He was an eight-time Group-winner with results at two, three, four and five. He had class and longevity, which is a rare trait in the modern stallions as they are so often whisked away quickly to stud because of the financial gain available.

Ghaiyyath was a Group-winning two-year-old who posted three of the top four Timeform performances of 2020, beating Enable in the G1 Eclipse and Magical in the G1 International.

His first Australian crop have just turned two and the reports from the stables that bought them is strong. He has made a strong start in the Northern Hemisphere this year with his first starters.

The Dam - Persian Star

Persian Star was a seven-time winner on the track. She won the Listed Andrew Ramsden Stakes, now a win and you’re in to the Melbourne Cup, and performed from 1600m to 3200m.

She has continued to do the job in the breeding barn. She has produced six winners from her seven foals to race. They include Giddy Up Warrior who was a City winner this Spring.

I was really drawn to this colt’s pedigree and thought it was an excellent mating. He is a yearling and we have been able to secure him before the major yearling sales start in January and get a head start on majority of this crop.

The Colt

He was bred on an excellent farm in Gooree Park. They have produced horses such as Desert War, Prized Icon, Your Song and many more.

I don’t envisage him being a pre-Christmas two-year-old but the advantage of being able to buy him earlier means we can get him broken in nice and early and he will be able to do plenty of work before a lot of this crop of yearlings will even go to auction.

He has arrived in Victoria and we will look to get him broken in through January and get the ball rolling with him. â€‹â€‹

The Spring of his Classic year will be front of mind and then there are a plethora of options through the Autumn and Winter for three-year-olds.

Tom Dabernig’s training style will really suit this horse and he will be given every chance to have a long and fruitful career with his mother and father both being consistent racehorses for many years.
