Almanzor (FR) x Vanity Queen (GB)
'23 Filly

Trainer: Tom Dabernig (Warrnambool)

I noticed this filly passed in at the recent Karaka Yearling Sale. At its conclusion, I contacted the Cambridge Stud team to enquire about options going forward. I was very interested in her because of her page and I believe she is going to continue to develop into a lovely looking filly. An opportunity not to be missed.
Two very good judges that were at the sale both told me the same thing on inspection. “She was a beautiful moving filly!”
In a selective market, Cambridge Stud were happy to take her home when she didn’t meet the reserve of $30,000.
One of the two people I spoke to that inspected the filly was respected bloodstock agent who regularly buys horses for Tom Dabernig and he said she was a beautiful mover, great action and she had a lot of quality.
Going through the results at Karaka there was a lot of competition for the top bracket of horses and then the interest was a lot thinner in the middle and lower market. That provided me with an excellent opportunity to take advantage.
Almanzor
Almanzor was crowned Champion First Season Sire and has also been Champion 2YO Sire. Proving his versatility, his best performed horses have been Derby winner Manzoice and Sydney Cup winner Circle Of Fire. He was a European Champion Three-Year-Old and a son of the hottest stallion on the planet Wootton Bassett.
Vanity Queen
Vanity Queen is by the legendary Fastnet Rock he has 15 daughter produce Group 1 winners and eight of those were Group 1-winning fillies.
Her pedigree really appealed to me. She was bred in England and trained by Luca Cumani. She’s a half-sister to Volume, who placed in both the English and Irish Oaks, and El Drama who has Group 1-placed in the Jebel Hatta. Volume has also produced a Champion Two-Year-Old Colt.
Cambridge race the 3yo out of the mare, Tycoon Prince, who is a winner and can win a few more. He could be a chance of sneaking minor black-type in the autumn.
The Filly
She will remain at Cambridge and be given some time on the fertile New Zealand grass before we decide to bring her back over to Australia for breaking or leave her there to be broken in.
The Almanzor x Vanity Queen mating is a 20/20 match on G1 Goldmine. It is the highest rating on G1 Goldmine and occurs when a pattern has two or more Graded Stakes Winners with CSI values above 20. This indicates that this mating is excellent as there are at least two superior horses with a very similar pattern
